Harvest Season
A downloadable game for Windows
--------- MAIN DESCRIPTION ---------
Harvest Season is a top-down farming game with interesting mechanics and features. It started as a high school project, but I decided to keep working on it even after I submitted it and publish it here. I think it's needless to say that this game is inspired by Stardew Valley and draws some of its main features from it. Now that most of the core mechanics have been implemented, I'm trying to add more and more original content and features (like I already did with the woods, the hunt etc.).
Little side note: I'm italian and I go to an italian school, so obviously I had to do the project in italian (item names, day counter etc.). There aren't major dialogue windows so it shouldn't be hard but I'm working on making an english translation. Due to the large amount of mechanics, items and recipes there are, a wiki is surely needed and I'm working on that too. Despite spending a lot of my time on this project, I'm still a 16yo student and this is not my full time job, so expect about a minor update a week, + the wiki and translation will take some time. In the meantime, figure things out on your own (and learn some italian 😝).
If you want to learn more about the main features of the game, I've listed some of them here below, since there is no wiki atm.
--------- MAIN DESCRIPTION ---------
PLANT AND HARVEST CROPS
Right now there are 7 crops in the game, being rice, wheat, corn, tomato, lettuce, pumpkin and carrot. Each crop grows in different seasons, needs to be watered daily and will wilt if you don't do so. Some crops have special growing conditions: rice, for example, needs to be planted on the tiles right next to the lake.

WEATHER AND SEASONS
The game has a time system that manages days, seasons, weather etc. There are 4 seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter), each being 10 days long. An entire day lasts 60 seconds, 30 seconds for day time and 30 seconds for night time. You can use lanterns at night to illuminate the enviroment, though you can see just fine even without them, it's more of an aesthetics thing. Trees also change their appearance based on seasons (they turn orange in autumn and are covered with snow in winter). At the start of each day there's a 30% chance that it will rain. Rain will automatically water crops. Rain in winter is replaced with snow.
FISH
At the bottom of your plot of land, there's a lake (it's not really a defined body of water since it contains both salt water and fresh water fishes, but we'll call it lake for simplicity). By interacting with the lake you can do one of 2 things: filling up your glass bottle, allowing you to water 4 crops before having to be refilled, or fish by holding a fishing rod and having worms in your inventory. Fishing consists of a minigame that you have to beat in order to catch the fish.
INVENTORY, CRAFTING AND SPECIAL ORDERS
There's an in-game inventory to store your items. The first 5 slots make up the hotbar. Items contained in the hotbar can be selected with the 1-5 keys and used. You can also craft stuff. If you have the right ingredients for a recipe in your inventory, it will show up under the "crafting" category and can be crafted by clicking on the output item. Another section of the inventory is the special orders section. Here, a combination of 3 random items (and quantities from 1 to 3) will show up and refresh at the start of every season OR when you complete an order. Completing an order will give you 500 coins. Coins right now represent your in-game score, but I'm planning on making a levelling bar in the future and make it so that coins can be used to purchase special items from merchants.
WOODS, HUNT AND FARM ANIMALS
By crossing the right limit of your screen while in the plot, you will travel to the woods. Here there are big pine trees, more weeds (that can be useful if you need more fibers or worms) and most importantly chickens. Chickens are very fast and run around the woods. You can either catch them with a net and bring them to your plot, where they will produce eggs daily, or hunt them with a slingshot, in which case they will drop raw chicken, which can be cooked and sold. The woods are bigger than the plot of farming land and can be explored. To go back to the plot, you have to cross the left limit of the woods map.

Absolute fire potential bro keep it u
Thank you brother 🙏🙏
The game looks already awesome even if it's not finished yet, it's filled with cool mechanics and details that make the game charming, you can see that they put a lot of effort in this game
I sure did, thank you for playing! Stick around for future updates!
nice gameplay, nice graphics, winter is a little bit empty atm but keep up the work, i like the animations
I agree that winter can feel a bit hollow, that’s why I’m currently trying to add more and more features outside of agriculture. Adding some winter crops other than wheat could also be a good idea but idk if there are many. Btw thank you for playing and stick around for future updates!
If you notice you don't die even after draining your whole health bar, it's not a bug, I simply haven't set up a proper main manu and death screen. The game is still in developement and these feature will come with future updates.
